Abstract

The advent of social media has ushered in a transformative era in contemporary migration, particularly influencing rural-to-urban migration dynamics on a global scale. Drawing on key insights from Awumbila et al. (2017), Dekker et al. (2018), Alencar (2018), and Hidayati (2019), this study delves into the profound impact of social media platforms on driving migration trends. As pivotal tools in migration decision-making, social media provides migrants with abundant information and networking opportunities, revolutionizing the migration landscape.The integration of social media into migration dynamics has not only facilitated the dissemination of destination conditions but has also fostered connections and integration efforts among migrants. Dekker et al. (2018) highlight how social media reduces migration costs and risks while enhancing access to relevant information, acting as a catalyst for migration flows. Additionally, Hidayati (2019) underscores the significance of social media networks in facilitating integration and connection opportunities for migrants, fostering a sense of community and support both pre- and post-migration. This research synthesizes insights from various studies to illuminate the multifaceted impact of social media on migration dynamics, revealing its potential to reshape spatial mobility patterns and influence settlement decisions. The findings emphasize the pivotal role of social media as a dynamic force shaping migration processes globally.
